Subject: Validity of CGHS Card in all CGHS Centres
The undersigned is directed to draw attention to the Order No Misc 6024/2007/CGHS(HQ)/CGHS(P) dated the 17th December 2012 and to reiterate that CGHS Card is valid at any CGHS Wellness Centre in the Country for availing CGHS benefits as per the details given under:
i) CGHS Card is valid in any Wellness Centre in India and no additional document / attachment is required.
ii) Medicines shall be issued for upto to ‘3’ months, in case of beneficiaries undergoing treatment for chronic illnesses.
iii) Referral/endorsement for treatment from private HCOs empanelled under CGHS shall be issued from any CGHS Wellness centre.
Additional Directors, CGHS are advised to ensure that these guidelines are complied with by CMOs in Charge and other staff of CGHS Wellness Centres.
The contents of this order are to be brought to the notice of Members of the Local Advisory Committees/ Zonal Advisory Committee.

The Department of Health and Family Welfare once again reiterated that the validity of CGHS Cards in all CGHS wellness Centres in India
In 2011 itself the Department of Health and Family Welfare clarified that computerization of all CGHS covered cities has been completed and the plastic CGHS cards are valid in all CGHS cities in India.
And there is no need for obtaining temporary attachment while on a visit to another CGHS ctiy. CGHS beneficiaries are permitted to obtain medicines (including indented medicines) from any Wellness centre located in the same city. There is no need for registration at the counter to collect Indented Medicines.
CGHS Cards are valid in all CGHS wellness Centres in the country for consultation, issue and indent of Medicines including the Life Saving Medicines.
Similarly, CGHS beneficiaries can be referred for consultation at hospitals empanelled under CGHS from any CGHS Wellness Centres and endorsement of advice of Specialist of empanelled hospital should also be made at any CGHS Wellness Centre.
Non CGHS Area Beneficiaries
CGHS pensioner beneficiaries (and their dependent and eligible family members), who are holding a valid CGHS card and are residing in a non-CGHS areas shall be eligible to obtain treatment from Government Hospitals (Central Govt./ State Govt./ Local Self Government/ hospitals recognized under CS (MA) Rules, 1944/hospitals and clinics empanelled under ECHS) and submit the medical reimbursement claim to the Additional Director of the concerned CGHS City, where the CGHS card is registered through CMO in-charge of CGHS Wellness Centre, where the CGHS card is registered.
Emergency & Non-Emergency treatment
In case of non-emergency treatment from hospitals approved under Central Services (Medical Attendance) Rules, 1944 and Ex-Servicemen Contributory Health Scheme (ECHS), it is necessary to obtain prior approval from CMO in-charge of concerned Wellness Centre where the CGHS card is registered.
In case of medical emergency, treatment may be obtained from any hospital and medical claim shall be submitted to the Additional Director/Joint Director of the concerned CGHS City through CMO in-charge of concerned CGHS Wellness Centre, where the CGHS card is registered.

CGHS Lifetime Card Fees | Lifetime Subscription in CGHS
For Central Government employees and pensioners, paying a one-time subscription fee for ten years (120 months) secures a lifetime membership. CGHS subscription fee for 120 months, which amounts to Rs. 54,000 (120 x 450 = 54,000) as per the 7th CPC.
CGHS LIFE TIME CARD: Central Government Pensioners can apply for a CGHS Lifetime Card by making a contribution based on their last grade pay at the time of retirement. An individual can choose to pay for 10 years’ contribution together or apply for one year, two years, etc. by paying for that applicable period. The Plastic Cards, which serve as identity cards, will be issued to pensioner beneficiaries with validity till they are entitled to CGHS benefits. For pensioner CGHS beneficiaries who have paid CGHS contribution for ‘Rest of Life’ CGHS facilities, Plastic Cards will be issued for ‘Rest of Life’. The ownership of the CGHS Card can be transferred to the spouse by submitting the required documents. In the case of lifetime cards, no extra payment is necessary. However, for other cards, a payment of 10 years subscription is required for a lifetime card. For instance, if the spouse had contributed for seven years before their demise, the balance payment for the remaining three years is required to obtain a lifetime card.
