Army is Considering Raising the Retirement Age of Soldiers 54 to 58 – Armed Forces Chief Bipin Rawat
The Army has allocated Rs 3.18 lakh crore last year budget. It has been raised to Rs 3.37 lakh crore by 2020-21 budget. There is considerable budgetary allocation to long-pending military modernization.
In the Budget for 2020-21, Rs 1.33 lakh crore has been earmarked for pension. This was Rs 1.1 lakh crore in 2019-20.
Soldiers retire at age 37 or 38, while the retirement age of soldiers is 54 to 58 years.
If they retire at the age of 38, their salaries will be cut in half, including the free housing, concessionary health plan and education.
A Soldier retiring at the age of 38 receives 30 to 32 years of his 17-year career. Why should the same Soldier not work for 38 years and only retire for 20 years?
We are consulting the possibility of extending the retirement age to 58.
