Implementation of Old Pension Scheme in Himachal Pradesh – Stopping of National Pension System Contribution
The Old Pension Scheme (OPS) would be restored from April 1, 2023 in Himachal Pradesh, benefitting 1.36 lakh employees who will no longer be required to faced deductions under the National Pension Scheme (NPS). A notification regarding implementation of the OPS was issued by the Chief Secretary on 17th April 2023, Monday.
The Department of Finance in the Government of Himachal Pradesh has issued an important order regarding the implementation of the Old Pension Scheme for its employees, effective from April 1, 2023. In accordance with the Cabinet Decision, as per the CCS (Pension) Rules, 1972, the State Government has decided to stop the contribution of State Government employees covered under NPS with effect from April 1, 2023. As per the office memorandum dated April 17, 2023 issued by the Pension Department of Finance of Himachal Pradesh, the contributions of State Government employees (employee’s and employer’s share) covered under the National Pension System shall be ceased as a result of the implementation of the old pension scheme.

OFFICE MEMORANDUM
The undersigned is directed to say that in view of the Cabinet Decision for implementation of the Old Pension Scheme under the CCS (Pension)Rules 1972, the State Government has decided that contributions of the State Government employees (i.e. employee’s and employer’s share) covered under National Pension System shall be stopped w.e.f. 1st April, 2023.
