FAQ on CBSE Board Exam Result 2020 For Class 10 and 12

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS RELATING TO CLASS XII AND X BOARD EXAMS – 2020

Question No. 1:

I am a student of Class XI (to be promoted to class XII). I have been detained in Class 11 in school because my academic result was not good. But some of my friends have been directly promoted based on their earlier results.

1. All schools are advised to promote students of grades 9 and 11 to the next grades on the basis of all the school-based assessments including project work, periodic tests, term exams, etc. conducted so far.

2. For any child who is unable to clear this internal process, (in any number of subjects), the school may utilise this period for providing remedial interventions, and school may give the opportunity of appearing in school-based test/s, online or offline. The promotion of such children maybe decided on the basis of such tests.

3. Schools need to follow the instructions issued by CBSE. This applies to all the schools in India and Abroad.

Question No. 2:

Clause 5 of CBSE Press release dated 1.4.20 notifies that the Board has decided to not hold any more exams for the students of class 10 and 12 schools located outside India. As this would directly affect students associated with over 250 schools abroad, what will happen to the results of class XII students?

As per the information available, schools have been closed for a long period in Middle East Countries and in Kuwait till 3rd August,2020. Similarly, schools in Iran, Japan, Nigeria, etc are also closed. Conducting exams is not a one-day process. It requires time to deliver papers, transport for evaluation,
process results, etc. In such circumstances, if exams are conducted after 3rd August, then future of college admissions of all the students will be at stake. Therefore, the CBSE will prepare results of all students in CBSE schools located outside India, for all the subjects that the students had registered for based on certain objective criteria. CBSE will also issue passing documents as per practice for future use.

Question No. 3:

Majority of the non-resident Indian students, who are in CBSE schools abroad, have planned their higher studies in India. How will this affect college admission applications? The JEE exam has minimum requirement of 75% marks in the qualifying examination. How will that get affected?

Please see answer to FAQ number 2 above. In addition, the system of marking/assessment for the purpose of declaring results will be worked out by the Board shortly and informed to these schools so that the interest of students’ is protected.

Question No. 4:

Please open a portal for reallocating centers for students who are writing entrance exams, because a lot of them are stranded in different locations and may not be able to take the exam at the allocated center, due to the changed circumstances.

Such requests that are received by us are being forwarded to National Testing Agency. However, it is advised to contact the National Testing Agency directly.

Question No. 5:

CBSE vide Press Release dated 01.04.2020 has directed all affiliated schools who could not conduct final exams due to Corona virus outbreak to promote all the class 9 and 10 students to class 11 and 12 on the basis of students’ performance.

But there are certain students whose results are with-held due to poor performance in one subject. Those students have to reappear in one subject. In view of existing extraordinary situation, they are not able to start their studies for new class. nor are they sure when will the retest exam be held.

As the period of lockdown is uncertain, can a lenient view be taken and all the CBSE affiliated schools be directed to promote such students?

Question No. 6:

I study in 12th class and my centre is in N-E Delhi. I have already appeared in economics and political science papers, but according to your notice these 2 exams will also be held again. Do I have to appear in both these papers again or not?

No, you need not re-appear in these examinations if you have already appeared. These exams will be conducted again for those few students who could not appear in these exams on the scheduled date due to the impact of law and order issues on them.

Question No. 7:

As CBSE will conduct class-XII Maths exam separately for N-E Delhi, can students of Kuwait also appear in the same exam?

As per the information available, Kuwait has been under strict lockdown since 12th March and schools have been closed in Kuwait till 3rd August,2020. Similarly, schools have been closed for long periods in all other Middle East Countries. In such circumstances, if exams are conducted after 3rd August, then future admissions of the students will be at stake.

The system of marking/assessment for the purpose of declaring results will be worked out by the Board shortly and informed to these schools so that the interest of students’ is protected.

Question No. 8: 

Will instructions issued by CBSE vide press release dated 01.04.2020 regarding promotion policy for classes 1 to 8, 9 and 11 be effective after 2020 also?

No. These instructions have been issued only as one-time measure for 2020, in view of the prevailing
extraordinary circumstances of the worldwide spread of COVID-19 and the countrywide lockdown.

Question No. 9:

Which schools need to follow the promotion guidelines for classes 1 to 8, 9 and 11 issued by CBSE vide its press release dated 1.4.20?

Schools that need to follow these guidelines include, KendriayaVidyalayas, Navodaya Vidyalayas, State/UT government schools, private schools, schools affiliated to the Board located in India and abroad, etc.

Question No. 10:

What is the promotion policy for Classes 1 to 8?

All students studying in classes 1 to 8 may be promoted to the next class/grade. This advisory was issued in consultation with NCERT.

What is the promotion policy for Classes 9 to 11?

Students of grades 9 and 11 are to be promoted to the next grades on the basis of all the school-based
assessments including project work, periodic tests, term exams, etc. conducted so far. Question No. 12:

When will the remaining Board Examinations be conducted?

With regard to rescheduling board examinations for classes 10 and 12, it is informed that at this stage it is difficult for the Board to decide and announce the new schedule for examinations.

However, it is informed that any decision that the board will take with regard to the conduct of examinations will be taken by undertaking extensive consultation with higher education authorities and by keeping all aspects related to entrance exams, admissions dates, etc. in mind. In this context, it is further informed that the Board will give notice of about 10 days to all stakeholders before starting the Board examinations.

Question No. 13:

As and when board examinations are held, which are the subjects for which examinations will be held by CBSE for class-X?

For class X, CBSE will conduct the examinations of only those subjects whose examinations were postponed by the board because of law and order situation in N-E Delhi District.

These subjects are:
i. Hindi Course A,
ii. Hindi Course B,

iii. English Comm,
iv. English Lang & Lit,

v. Science,
vi. Social Science

Question No. 14:

In class-XII, examinations of which subjects will be conducted by CBSE for students from the whole of India?

Examination of following main subjects would be conducted by CBSE for whole of India for class 12:

i. Business Studies,

ii. Geography,
iii. Hindi (Elective),

iv. Hindi (Core),
v. Home Science,
vi. Sociology,
vii. Computer Science (Old),

viii. Computer Science(New),

ix. Information Practice (Old)

x. Information Practice(new),
xi. Information Technology,

xii. Bio-Technology

Question No. 15:

In class-XII, examinations of which subjects will be conducted by CBSE for only those students who were affected by the law and order situation in North East Delhi District?

Examination of following main subjects would be conducted by CBSE in Delhi for students of class 12, who were affected by the law and order situation in North East Delhi District:

i. English Elective – N,
ii. English Elective -C,
iii. English Core,

iv. Mathematics,
v. Economics,

vi. Biology,

vii. Political Science,
viii. History,

ix. Physics,

x. Accountancy,

xi. Chemistry

Question No. 16: 

Will the examination in the language subjects taken as 6th subject at Class X level be conducted as it may affect the admissions for Class XI?

No. For such subjects, the Board will not hold examinations. However, the Board will prepare results for these subjects; the instructions for marking/assessment in all such cases shall be separately issued by the Board.

Question No. 17:

Will the marks of the subjects in which re-exam will not be held be included in the mark sheet?

Yes, the Board is making provisions for this. It may be noted that the Board will conduct examinations for only main subjects that will be required for promotion and maybe crucial for admissions in higher educational institutions. For the rest of the subjects, the Board will not hold examinations; the instructions for marking/assessment in all such cases shall be separately issued by the Board.

Question No. 18:

As per the Press Release dated 01.4.2020, examinations will not be conducted in schools outside India. For future studies including NEET andEngineering exams, 12th standard marks are essential. How will CBSE handle such cases?

The system of marking/assessment for the purpose of declaring results will be worked out by the Board shortly and informed to these schools. It is reiterated that the interest of students will be protected.

Question No. 19:

Will the examinations for the language subjects be held along with other 29 subjects?

No. The examination in the language subjects will not be conducted along with the 29 subjects as per the
Press Release dated 01.4.2020.It has been decided not to conduct these exams. However, for the purpose of results, the Board is preparing a policy as mentioned earlier.

Question No. 20:

Because maximum students study only for their final exams, can students of 9th and 11th gradealso be promoted to next class, just like students of classes 1 to 8?

In Classes 9 and 11, there is a system of continuous internal assessment in most of the subjects by the schools. In addition, schools also conduct term exams at regular intervals in which the students are assessed. Hence the contention that maximum students study at the last moment for the final exams is not borne by facts.

Question No. 21:

When are the exam dates likely to be released?

At this stage and in the prevailing situation, it is difficult for the Board to decide and announce the new schedule for examinations. The Board will give notice of about 10 days to all stakeholders before starting the Board examinations.

Question No. 22:

CWSN students take Computer Science as the 5th main subject as per the scheme of studies. What will be the passing criteria in such cases, considering the exam is not going to be held now?

As mentioned earlier, the instructions for marking/assessment in all such cases shall be separately issued by the Board, and will take care of the interest of all students.

Question No. 23:

As per Press Release, Class 10th COMPUTER APPLICATION Exam will not be conducted. In such condition, can a candidate opt COMPUTER APPLICATION in higher Classes (i.e. in 11th/12th)

All the subjects whose examinations will not be conducted by CBSE,certification will be done based on a policy to be decided later. With this, students will be eligible for admission in higher classes and the desired subject as in this case- Computer Application.

Question No. 24:

CBSE has decided not to hold the examination of regional languages. Will this affect the future of students who have opted regional languages?

No. The examination in the language subjects will not be conducted alongwith the other subjects as per the Press Release dated 01.4.2020. However, as mentioned earlier, the instructions for marking/assessment in all such cases shall be separately issued by the Board, and will take care of the interest of all students.

Question No. 25:

Whether marks will be awarded based on the Pre-Board examinations already conducted by schools, in the subjects for which examinations are not going to be held.

Question No. 26:

a) CBSE should take 4 subjects into consideration and declare the result for those in foreign countries to promote them.

b) Future of Indian students in foreign countries has been put at stake by cancellation of 10th/12th CBSE remaining examinations, since many students got selected in top Universities.

CBSE is fully committed to protect the interest of all of it’s students and take an appropriate decisionafter assessing the situation. As mentioned earlier, the instructions for marking/assessment in all such cases shall be separately issued by the Board, and will take care of the interest of all students.

Question No. 27:

Is it possible not to take remaining Class

10th/12th Exams as the final result may be prepared based on Pre-Board/Mid-term Examinations already conducted by respective schools? “CBSE is fully committed to protect the interest of all of its students and decide the best possible strategies. As far as result is concerned, as mentioned, the
instructions for marking/assessment shall be separately issued by the Board.”

Question No. 28:

Since, 9th/11th Students whose annual examinations have not been conducted by the schools due to
COVID-19, their promotion decision to 10th /12th Class will be taken by their school based on press release issued by CBSE on 01.04.2020.
In the same line, all the students who could not have scored passing marks in Class 9th/11th Annual Examinations and their result has been declared may also be promoted to 10th /12th Class to save their one- year precious time.

Press release dated 01.04.2020 issued by CBSE will not be applicable on the promotion of the students of Classes-IX and XI whose results have been declared prior to Covid-19/ lockdown. Promotion of such students will be as per promotion policy existing at that time.

Question No. 29:

School has conducted annual examinations for classes-IX and XI prior to lockdown, but result has not
been declared till date. Will the press release dated 01.04.2020 issued by CBSE need to be followed by these schools when they will declare the result of class-IX and XI?

Press release dated 01.04.2020 issued by CBSE will not be applicable if examinations have been conducted prior to lockdown and result has not been declared. Promotion of such students will be as per promotion policy existing at that time.

Question No. 30:

School has not conducted annual examinations for classes-IX and XI prior to lockdown. Will the press
release dated 01.04.2020 issued by CBSE need to be followed by these schools when they will declare the result of class-IX and XI?

Yes. Press release dated 01.04.2020 issued by CBSE will be applicable on these schools.

Question No. 31:

Can school conduct online verbal examination as an opportunity to the students?

Spread of Covid-19 and lockdown as a preventive measure is a very rare conditions faced by almost all the countries in the world. In such extreme situations, innovations in examinations
are quite welcomed.

Question No. 32:

We had declared the results of classes 9 and 11 on 18.03.20 and 19.03.20, before the schools were closed, which was followed by a complete lockdown. The students have been put in the compartment category and are detained too as per the guidelines and promotion rules issued by the CBSE.
However, CBSE had issued a press release on 1.04.2020 followed by FAQ’s related to the promotion of students of classes 9 and 11. Does this apply to our school also? Will it affect the result of our school in any way which was declared before the closure of the school?

Press release dated 01.04.2020 issued by CBSE will not be applicable on the promotion of the students of Classes-IX and XI whose results have been declared prior to Covid-19/ lockdown. Promotion of such students will be as per promotion policy existing at that time.

Question No. 33:

This is regarding CBSE circular of not permitting combination of Biology and Biotechnology at Senior
Secondary level. This is an extremely popular and preferred combination with Biology students as Biotechnology help students of NEET, Biochemistry, Microbiology etc. in their further studies and expose them to various allied fields in biology. Also, Biology and Biotechnology syllabus do not overlap, instead supplement each other. Practicals in Biotechnology is further helping Biology students to have hands on experience, of what they are learning in theory.
What is the rationale behind this decision?

Biotechnology was introduced by the CBSE in the session 2002-2003 as an elective subject.

 To promote Biotechnology, CBSE, requested Medical Council of India to consider Biotechnology in place of Biology in the eligibility criteria for admission in MBBS. This request was accepted and eligibility criterion for admission in MBBS was amended by the Medical Council of India. In 2020, Biology has been offered by 2,67,705 students and Biotechnology by only 2727 students in class-XII. Only 873 students have offered Biology and Biotechnology.

It is clear from the above data that combination of Biology and Biotechnology is not a popular combination and decision taken by CBSE will not create any issue for the students who wish to offer
Biotechnology even now.

 Further, no higher education institution requires both Biology and Biotechnology together be offered at 10+2 to make them eligible for any specific course.

Question No. 34:

CBSE in its press release dated 01.04.2020 informed that all students studying in classes 1 to 8 maybe promoted to the next class/grade. This advisory is being issued in consultation with NCERT.
Will CBSE issue any further circular on this issue?

For classes 1 to 8, academic authority is NCERT. This circular dated 1.4.20 has been issued in consultation with NCERT.
No further circular will be issued by CBSE. All concerned can take necessary action at their end on the
basis of our circular dated 1.4.20 or as per state rules and regulation, as applicable.
