KV Admission 2022 FAQs
Can a candidate provide his / her choice for Kendriya Vidyalaya?
Choice for KV (maximum 3) in which admission is sought should be provided at the time of filling the application form.
Is there any relaxation in the age limit prescribed for admission?
A relaxation of 2 years in the upper age limit will be given to the candidates belonging to differently abled category.
What is the mode of admission to different classes in KVs?
Admissions in class I are done through online mode & for other classes it is offline.
For a KV student applying for admission in class XI, is there any relaxation?
A relaxation of 5% marks in board exams will be given to the KV student applying for admission in class XI.
Is it true that there is special provision for admission of certain candidates?
Special provision will be given to candidates belonging to the categories mentioned below. Students of these categories will be granted admission over the class strength as well.
- Children and dependent grandchildren of Hon’ble Members of Parliament
- Children and grandchildren of serving and retired KVS employees (for class IX, the child has to clear the admission test)
- Children of Central Government employees who died in harness
- Children of recipients of military decoration, Sena Medal (Army), Nav Sena Medal (Navy), Vayu Sena Medal (Air Force)
- Children of recipients of President’s Police & Police medal for gallantry
- Meritorious sports children who have secured I, II & III position in SGFI/ CBSE/ National/ State level games organized by the Government
- Recipients of Rashtrapati Puraskar in Scouts & Guides
- Single girl children in class I and from class VI onwards
- Recipients of National Bravery or Balshree Award
- Children whose parent is a teacher and is a recipient of National Award for teachers
- Children who have shown special talent in Fine Arts at National or State level
- Children of employees of the Ministry of HRD
- Children of employees of Ministry of External Affairs
- Children of the employees of the Research and Analysis Wing (RAW)
- Children of Sponsoring Agency
- Students recommended by Hon’ble Member of Parliament
Where can I get the admission guidelines?

Are only government employees eligible to apply for admission of their wards in Kendriya Vidyalayas?
No, self-employed persons, persons in private jobs and those from floating population are also eligible to apply for admission of their wards to Kendriya Vidyalayas. However, admission will be granted in order of priority specified in Guidelines for Admission to Kendriya Vidyalayas.
Is there any fee for application?
No, the application processing is absolutely free of cost.
Will there be any exam before Std 1 admission?
There is no exam for Std 1 admission.
If I have any query regarding admission, who should I contact?
Please contact the Principal of the concerned KVs where admission is sought.
What is the age cutoff for a child applying to grade-1?
The minimum age for admission to Std 1 is 5 years and the maximum admissible age is 7 years as on 01/04/2022, with a 2 year relaxation in upper age limit for “Differently-Abled” candidates. Thus, the allowed range of date of birth of a child seeking admission is: 1.04.2015 to 1.04.2017 for applications not in the “Differently Abled” category. The allowed range of date of birth of a child seeking admission in the “Differently Abled” category is 1.04.2013 to 1.04.2017. If the entered date of birth does not live in above mentioned range, sign up/registration will not be allowed.”
What are the timings for Shift 1 and shift 2 School ?
Shift-1 will be in the morning and shift -2 in the afternoon. For more details, please contact KVS RO helpline during working hours. Helpline contacts are available under “Help Desk” link on the admission portal.
How many Kendriya Vidyalayas can I apply to using one application?
You can apply for at most 3 KVs in an application.
Can I edit the application after submitting?
- No, You cannot edit the application after submitting. However, submitted application can be cancelled and re-filled again before the last date of submission. Please note that once the application form is cancelled, It will not be considered for admission. To cancel the submitted application form, applicant needs to first login to the portal. The status of application form will be displayed as “submitted”. A button “Cancel Submitted Application form” will be shown. On click of the button, an OTP will be sent to registered mobile number. After entering the OTP correctly on the portal, the application will be cancelled and status of the application will be changed to Cancelled.
- Once the application status is cancelled, It will not be considered for admission unless applicant re-applies and submits the application form again.
- On a cancelled status, Re-Apply with existing data and Re-Apply afresh will be displayed. To get the previously filled form back, press Re-apply with existing data. On click of this button, the application form will open with previously filled data. Now, applicant can make required changes and submit the application form again. To get the new form, click on Re-apply afresh button. An application form with only pre-filled registration data will open. The form can be filled and submitted again with process followed earlier.

Can I check the application status in this portal?
Yes. Click on the Application Status to check the status of your application.
How to use a calendar for filling dates in various forms ?
To change the month, click on year once and to change the year, click on year twice. Next and previous arrows can also be used for selecting Month and year. After selecting desired year and month, select the day, the date will be selected and visible in text box. You can also enter the date in specified format ( DD-MM-YYYY).
What is the order of priority for admission?

Is a service certificate mandatory for all the category?
If you are applying in any category other than in the last category (which includes “Children from any other category”), you need to present a service certificate during admission process in the concerned school. Sample proforma service certificates have been provided by KVS under the link “Proforma document samples”. If you are applying under the last category (which includes “Children under any other category”), you need not require a service certificate. If in doubt, please contact the KVS RO Helpline during working hours. Helpline contact details (phone and email contacts) are given under the “Help Desk” link on the portal.
Declaration of distance of residence from school has not shown on portal. Is parent’s declaration of distance of residence from school is mandatory in all case?
This is mandatory for RTE applicants. In case of doubt, please contact your regional KVS RO helpline during working hours.
For Twin Girls (applying under single girl child) , do we need to register separately for each child ?
Please register separately for each of the twin girls. Assuming both of them are opting for exactly the same set of schools, choose “Single Girl Child” category in the application form for both the applications. Then link their applications by following the process mentioned in Instructions. If twins’ applications are not linked they will be considered as independent applications.
My organisation name or employment status is not present in the organisation list. What should I do to choose service category?
If the desired organisation name / employment status is not present in the list, then parents can choose the appropriate service category by themselves. This facility is given only to help in choosing service category.
Where can I find the sample format / proforma of documents?
Pro forma document samples link is provided on the website. Click on that link and select the desired document sample and download.
For Single Girl Child affidavit, Rs. 100 stamp paper is mentioned in proforma. Is lesser amount stamp paper allowed?
Regarding stamp paper, please contact KVS RO Helpline (contacts given under link for “Help Desk”) for clarification.
What is the maximum file size for uploading a document ?
The maximum file size for uploading is 256KB.
Can I upload documents later?
You can save the form and upload the documents before the last date of registration.
I have uploaded the wrong document. Can I change it.
Yes you can re-upload documents until last date of application if you have not submitted the application form. If you have submitted the application form then you can not change anything in the form. However, you can cancel your submission and re-apply again with the correct document and information. Please check question 5 for the process of cancelling and re-filling the application form.
What all documents do I need to show during admission?
For each applicant, different set of documents are required. The documents list depends on different categories chosen by an applicant. For more details please check KVS admission guidelines
Can I submit the documents once the child is shortlisted ?
Only after uploading documents, you can go to the next tab “ declaration and submit form”. And only after pressing the submit button and entering OTP, your application will be considered submitted and sent to respective schools. After getting shortlisted, you need to show the originals of all the required documents listed and uploaded in the form to the respective school.
