In Lakshadweep, all central and state government offices are generally closed on all public holidays. Government of Lakshadweep has published the list of holidays for the year 2024. The list contains a total of 17 holidays including national and regional holidays. Republic Day, Independence Day, Gandhi Jayanti and Christmas Day are some of the major holidays. In addition, there are many regional holidays such as Magh Bihu, Ram Navami and Dussehra and all 2nd and 4th Saturdays would also be observed as Holidays. NOTIFICATION
F.No.35/02/2018-Genl.:/ 9076 The Hon’ble Administrator, Union Territory of Lakshadweep is pleased to declare that the holidays specified in Annexure I & II below shall be observed as Closed Holidays and Restricted Holidays for UTL Administration during the year 2024 in all Government Offices under the Administration of Union Territory of Lakshadweep. In addition, each employee will also be allowed to avail himself / herself of any two holidays to be chosen by him out of the list of Restricted Holidays.

Any change in the date of Holiday in respect of Idu’l Fitr, Idul Zuha (Bakrid) Muharram and Milad-Un-Nabi (Birthday of Prophet Mohammed) if necessary will be declared depending upon sighting of the moon. For the office outside Kavaratti, the DCs/ BDO & AO, Kochi are authorized to declare the change in the date of holiday in respect of above holidays.
