Will the Minister of TRIBAL AFFAIRS be pleased to state:
(a) The total number of Eklavya Model Residential School constructed by the Government in the country as well as during the last five years;
(b) whether the Government proposes to construct new EMRS, State-wise including Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, West Bengal and districts of Tamil Nadu, if so, the details thereof;
(c) The number of seats increased for students in the said schools during the last five years;
(d) The details of the students currently enrolled against the available seats; and
(e) The details of the amount spent on these schools during the said period, year- wise?

(A): As on date, Ministry of Tribal Affairs has approved 694 Eklavya Model Residential Schools (EMRSs) in the country, out of which construction of 258 schools have been completed including 112 EMRSs constructed in the last five years.
(B): Government has decided to establish EMRS in every block with more than 50% ST population and at least 20,000 tribal persons (as per Census 2011). Accordingly 452 New locations have been identified for setting up EMRSs across the country. State-wise details, including Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, West Bengal and Tamil Nadu is at Annexure-I.
(C) and (D): As per EMRS guidelines the maximum strength of EMRSs is 480 per school having 60 students per class from 6th to 10th standard and 90 students per class for 11th and 12th standard.
The states have been advised to make schools functional from alternate building till construction of new school is completed. The total enrollment for the academic year 2022-23 is 1,13,275 in 401 functional schools. State-wise enrollment details is enclosed at Annexure-II. For the new schools which are made functional, in the 1st year, 6th class is started and in next academic year new class is added.
(E): Fund is released to National Education Society for Tribal Students (NESTS), an autonomous body under the Ministry to manage and implement the scheme of EMRS. NESTS further releases funds to States/ UTs/ PSUs/ Construction Agencies / State Societies for construction of EMRSs and recurring cost for running of the schools. The capital cost for construction of EMRS is Rs.37.80 crores for plain areas which can go upto Rs. 48.00 crores in case of Northeast, Hilly and LWE affected areas. Recurring cost of Rs.1, 09,000.00 per student per year is given to schools towards running and managing the school. Consolidated fund released by the Ministry to NESTS for recurring and construction cost of EMRS across the country during the last three years are as under:
